I am also thinking students will have the option to record a podcast if they so choose. This is something I am not completely familiar with, but am open to suggestions on how to best have students present this in an online setting.
Students will read through the conversation text, the informational article and the YouTube video

Next, students will be assigned a partner. One partner must play the role of the hometown student and the other student is from a Spanish-speaking country.
Students will set up a time during the week with me to Skype and they will have a 1-2 minute conversation about the differences. They will also be expected to have a 1-2 minute conversational response with me for follow-up questions.
Students will be assessed on the following:
- Use of current vocabulary in the conversation
- Ability to respond on the spot with appropriate responses
- Inclusion of the references from readings and prior knowledge
- Comfort of language and flow of conversation
- Appropriate cultural references
Follow-up: The next discussion will focus around how these values and customs affect society, the economy and education. Debates about change over time and paradigm shifts will be a focus, as well.
